Founded in Erkelenz in 1977, SCHAAF develops and manufactures products in the field of hydraulic high pressure tools and high pressure generators. First use of this technology goes back to developments undertaken in the fifties, by Mr Martin Schaaf, the founder of the company. At that time, he developed hydraulic Bolt Tensioners to avoid the irregularities when tightening bolt connections at valve heads of piston pumps by hand.
Further developments were brought to market maturity and lead to various patents in the area of axial pre-tensioning. In 1990, Mr Ralf Koellges, his colleague and assistant for many years, took over the company.
Today, a team of highly qualified technicians is continuously broadening the range of the companys’ activities by improving existing equipment and turning new developments into innovative products.

Composite Rolls for Bar and Rod Mills:
EcoRolls increase your production and lower costs
Example based on a German wire producer: On stand 10, when 5.5 mm wire is produced, the costsamount to 0.37 € per tonne when cast-iron rolls are used. Safe mounting and demounting of the SCHAAF Hydraulic Nut when changing the roll rings at the mill or, if requested, at Schaaf GmbH premises.
Basic setup : Screw the Hydraulic Nut (HM) on the bolt to be pretensioned, and down to the flanges' surface. A hydraulic high-pressure generator pumps the oil through a high-pressure hose into the space between cylinder and piston. The hydraulic pressure rises.
Bolt elongation: Through the rising pressure and the resulting axial force, the bolt is elongated and the flange parts are compressed. The lock nut is lifted off the cylinder. When the preset pre-tensioning force is achieved, the pressure supply is stopped.
Screwing the lock nut: The pre-tensioning force has been achieved and the lock nut is turned by hand down to the stop face of the cylinder. Thus, the pre-tensioning force is maintained within the screw joint and the hydraulic may be released. The Hydraulic Nut remains on the bolt connection.
A-LOC Roll Ring Locking System
The new A-LOC removable axial roll ring locking system is an optimum, highly efficient method of mounting roll rings free of any tensile stress. An important feature of the new A-LOC locking system is that it is possible to centre the roll ring and exert a high axial tension force using a single tool. This optimize the roll torque transfer and produces the required rotational accuracy. The removable A-LOC locking system provides huge cost savings in comparison with other conventional systems.

Hydraulic Mounting and Dismounting Devices
SCHAAF specializes in the design and manufacture of hydraulic devices for mounting and dismounting hubs on conical or cylindrical shaft seats. In this respect, Schaaf-GmbH an innovative supplier of integrated systems taking special care for an optimized joint between shaft and hub and for an easy and effective handling as well. SCHAAF is one of the leaders in the area of roll ring clamping with conical sleeves. Each mounting or dismounting device is tailored to the special application of each customers in order to achieve the best result for the joint that is possible. Long-term experience and Schaaf own developments help to find the right solution.
Hydraulic High Pressure Accessories
SCHAAF offers all hydraulic high pressure accessories which are required for the operating and handling of hydraulic devices. This comprises connecting components like adaptors with various thread combinations and sealing systems, high pressure hoses and tubes, multiple distributor blocks, valves, pressure relief valves, fast-lock coupling systems, high pressure seals, pressure gauges and indicators. For easy handling of the hydraulic components Schaaf manufactures hexagon nut driver sockets, for example, assembly aids like centring shafts and sleeves, lifting harnesses for heavy devices - if necessary with weight compensation, transport boxes, accessory implements as required. Furthermore, Schaaf designs and manufactures hydraulic high pressure accessories to special requirements such as special adaptors which are tailored exactly to your application.
Hydraulic High Pressure Pumps and Control Units
SCHAAF offers hydraulic high pressure generators that are co-ordinated best with its range of high pressure tools. Schaaf standard range goes up to a pressure level of 3000 bar. Schaaf supplies manual, pneumatic and electric hydraulic high pressure generators in standard design or custom-made. SCHAAF hydraulic high pressure generators stand out by their robust design that guarantees full functioning even under extreme circumstances and generally allows, in case of a failure, to repair and maintain on site with your personnel.
Bolt Tesnioning Device
The bolt tensioning device is placed over the bolt to be pretensioned and the immersion nut (puller) is screwed down to the face of the piston. The hydraulic oil runs from a hydraulic high-pressure generator (pump) through a high-pressure hose into the space between the cylinder and piston. The hydraulic pressure rises. Through this rising pressure and the resulting axial force, the bolt is elongated and the components of the flange are compressed. The main nut lifts from the flange. When the preset pretensioning force is achieved, pressure supply is stopped. The pretensioning force has been attained and the main nut is screwed down to stop face on the flange. By releasing the hydraulic pressure, the pretensioning force is maintained in the screw connection.
